Had my 1st injury and accident yesterday in Aikido! I was trying to do the forward roll landing where u have to use ur arm to roll urself. But ur supposed to use the outside of ur arm, i accidently went on the inside and i've torn my right shoulder muscle badly. I was in a&e for 3 hours, but my aikido dan teacher stayed with me! No work for a week and No Aikido now for 2-3 weeks! Gutted =( I've only been at it for 3 weeks and already its landed me in hospital. Joy for me!

Oh no sorry to hear that, how did you roll on the inside of your arm I don't think I could even put my arm in that position. Like all sports there is a chance of injury in martial arts but I have to say in my experience (apart from in mma/bjj) accidents and injuries are usually quite rare, you must just be one of the unlucky ones. It's good of your instructor to have stayed with you. Hope you have a fast recovery, don't let it stop you training in the future though, just make sure you do the forward roll slowly and with the right technique practise going down and into the position first with your arm down in the correct position but without doing the roll a few times until you have the technique right. It will no doubt of taken a knock on your confidence now and you may feel a little uneasy if you come to do the roll again in the future but that’s natural don't let it stop you, just use caution and make it your mission to nail perfect break falling. You never know you may trip one day in the future and a well executed break fall may prevent you from getting an injury so the odds will be evened up.

As soon as I get over the shoulder injury... I fall down the stairs and hair-line fracture my left ankle! I am so annoyed that I won't get to do my yellow belt before I go on holiday on the 6th September 2009 =( ![black_eye [smilie=black_eye.gif]](./images/smilies/black_eye.gif) Darn karma!

Lucky MUST be your middle name then!! Speaking of injuries, I think I might have broken/fractured a bone in my foot back in June... I threw a kick, but it connected the blokes elbow. At the time, it sent a sharp, shooting pain through my whole leg, but then I forgot about it.... The thing is...it's not getting any better!! Not sure what to do really! Keep your chin up Jay! Could be worse!! (I think ![biggrin [smilie=biggrin.gif]](./images/smilies/biggrin.gif) )

Ot oh, I find problems like that when your not sure if its a small fracture or not are really annoying as sometimes they don't feel quite bad enough to go to the hospital but they are bad enough to cause lots of discomfort. June thats some time ago now ![shok [smilie=shok.gif]](./images/smilies/shok.gif) could get it X-rayed depending on how problematic it is? Other than that I guess it's the old RICE treatment rest, ice, compression & elevation, not always easy when you want to go training though Have a read up on it and see what you think, these were the first things to come up in google; http://www.emedicinehealth.com/broken_f ... cle_em.htm, http://www.footphysicians.com/footankle ... ctures.htmI've knackard my toes and foot before when kicking, theres just too many small bones in the foot for bare foot impacts IMO, ball of the foot, side/bottom and heel are ok but when using the instep to be nice to your partner it can often back fire, it's good i think not to get into the habit of using the instep to kick with too i.e. for round house kicks (mawashi geri) sometimes it cant be helped as the opponent moves etc but I never aim to kick with the instep anymore to anywhere on the body including legs, I always use my shin. The only time I will use instep is usually for a jodan kick when it can be quite hard to contact the head with your shin.
