Was wondering if anyone knew how old some of the forms in Kung Fu are or who originated them, forms such as Sil Lim Tao, Chiam Kiu, Bil Jee or any other older ones. Sorry for my lack of knowledge on Kung Fu not sure if those are the correct names. I am interested in comparing their age and technique to forms/kata in karate, i.e. differences, similarities and influences etc What are the oldest form you know of? Can students of Chinese arts recognise similar techniques within certain karate styles, what about the hikite or pull back hand, i noticed some Chinese styles also use the concept of withdrawing the non punching fast back to a chambered position at the side of the body? Is it the white crane forms that had most influence on early okinawan karte?...
Thanks

Kung Fu was originally originated from an Indian monk (Tat Moh). This was refer to the martial arts of China.

Hi Madwolf thanks for the post welcome to the forum, be sure to introduce yourself in the welcome section. I have read things about Tat Moh in the past very interesting, also know as Bodhidharma. Would be great if there was more documented works on his teachings, my understanding is dates are not fully known but it is believed he helped the Shaolin Monks develop physical and mental strength by teaching them specific forms such as Eighteen Lohan Hands and Muscle Tendon Change Classic Forms, some people say he didn't have any impact on Chinese self defence/fighting forms but this is still debated... Being from the Indian Royal Family he probably would of had self defence knowledge... Wonder if theres any videos out there specifically of whats meant to be the techniques/forms that Tat Moh taught il have to have a look...
