Boxing Equipment

As a beginner, the essential boxing equipment is a pair of boxing gloves and hand wraps. Hand wraps protect your wrists and knuckles and should always be worn under gloves. If you plan to spar, you will also need a gum shield and head guard. A punch bag is ideal for home training. Check with your club or gym for their specific equipment requirements before purchasing.

Boxing glove size is measured in ounces (oz). For bag and pad work, 10oz–12oz gloves are suitable for most adults. For sparring, 14oz–16oz gloves are recommended to provide adequate protection for both you and your partner. Heavier gloves (16oz+) are used by larger or more advanced fighters.
