Taekwondo Equipment & Clothing

To start Taekwondo, the essential equipment is a dobok (taekwondo uniform) and a white belt. As you progress to sparring, you will need a full set of sparring protection including a head guard, chest protector, shin guards, forearm guards and a gum shield. Check with your club for their specific equipment requirements as some clubs provide sparring gear for beginners.

A dobok is the traditional uniform worn in Taekwondo. It consists of a jacket (top) and trousers, typically white, worn with a coloured belt to indicate grade. Competition doboks are V-neck style and may feature coloured trim to indicate rank. Training doboks are generally plain white with a round or V-neck collar. WT approved doboks meet the specifications required for World Taekwondo sanctioned competitions.

WT (World Taekwondo) approved equipment is required for official WT sanctioned competitions. For club training and grading, standard equipment is generally acceptable. If you plan to compete at regional, national or international level under WT rules, ensure your dobok and sparring protection carry the WT approval mark. Check with your club or governing body for their specific equipment requirements.
