Kids Karate Gi Sizing Guide — How to Get the Right Fit
Getting the right size karate gi for your child is important — a suit that’s too small will restrict movement, while one that’s too large will look untidy and get in the way. The good news is that sizing a kids karate gi is straightforward once you know how it works.
How Are Kids Karate Gi Sized?
Unlike regular clothing, karate gi are sized by height in centimetres — not by age or clothing size. This makes it much easier to get the right fit. Simply measure your child’s height and match it to the size on the product listing.
Kids Karate Gi Size Chart
- 100cm — Approx. age 3–4, height 95–105cm
- 110cm — Approx. age 4–5, height 105–115cm
- 120cm — Approx. age 5–6, height 115–125cm
- 130cm — Approx. age 6–8, height 125–135cm
- 140cm — Approx. age 8–10, height 135–145cm
- 150cm — Approx. age 10–12, height 145–155cm
- 160cm — Approx. age 12–14, height 155–165cm

Should I Size Up?
Yes — if your child is between sizes, we recommend sizing up. Children grow quickly and a slightly larger gi will last longer. Karate gi also shrink slightly after the first wash, so sizing up gives a little extra room. Avoid going more than one size up as an oversized gi will affect movement and appearance.
What About Shrinkage?
Most karate gi are made from polycotton or cotton and will shrink slightly on the first wash. Wash at 30–40°C to minimise shrinkage and preserve the fabric. Check the care label on your specific gi for washing instructions.
